A fun, eco-friendly way, to sell your goods

How are you selling your goods? In your very own store? Out of your home? Online? Consignment? However your doing it, I have found a new way for you to sell your goods; but instead of trying to bring the people to you, why not go to the people?

I was reading one of my favorite blogs yesterday when I came across this article . This artisan takes her creations around Santa Cruz on her bike. She uses a child carrier as her "store." I thought it was rather genius of her.

What do you think? I think this is something that could only work for certain creations and in certain areas. For example, I don't think I could do something like this with the type of wares I sell and the area I live in. Stationery is a bit of a dieing breed as email and social networking has become the preferred method of communication, which is why I mostly sell thank you sets and wedding stationery, something that someone has to have a need for before purchasing. But feather extensions in Santa Cruze? On a bike? A perfect combination. I've never been to Santa Cruz but many coastal cities encourages bicycling and artisans. As for the feather extensions, it's a growing obsession among young girls all the way to women in their thirties. It's not the type of ware that you need someone to be in the market for specifically, it's an accessory. Generally, if women find something pretty, they like it, and they can afford it (and sometimes can't afford it), then they'll buy it. How many times have you gone to the store just to buy some mundane need, and then you see something cute in the clothes section and you end up buying a new outfit that you had no original intention of buying? I've done it lots.

If your considering doing this then you need to ask yourself some questions...

1. What are you selling?

2. What are the people like in the area you are considering selling?

3. Do you think you have the type of ware that could be sold from a bike?

4. Are the people in your area likely to buy your ware from a bike?

There's just something about picnic baskets that make me all warm and cozy inside. Perhaps its the representation of simpler times and pleasures? Perhaps. I had spent about a year searching for the perfect chest at the perfect price at antique stores to keep treasures in for when I enter into my own home. But nothing stood out. During that year my uncle who had been ill came to stay with us until his last day on this Earth. But he did have good days and on those day's he worked on building a chest for me, which I hope to pass on to my daughter some day. Healthy Monday #4

I now weigh 131! Which Means since last week I've lost two pounds. I would love to lose a couple of more this week before Easter; my goal is to get under 130 by then.

I think what's helped is that I've started riding my bike a little every day, even if it's just around the neighborhood. Also, I've started drinking two cups of coffee in the morning; supposedly, caffeine helps boost metabolism (followed up by TONS of water)

I have a question for you bike riders out there. I really like hats, specifically fedoras and I would like to wear them more including on my bike rides but I feel like they'll fly away, especially on main roads with cars zipping by. So how do you keep it on? Any ideas?

Oh, Mondays, nobody likes you, you should just go away...

So what did my readers do this weekend? This weekend I spent every spare moment teaching myself how to ride my somewhat-new Huffy. Its so pretty... I shall call her, Veronica. Such a lovely name, don't you think?

Yes, I know, I am twenty-two years old with a baby and I am just NOW learning to ride. I just didn't have the patience nor the drive to teach myself, and neither did my parents, which was a shame since they had bought me a used bike fixed up nice for me. I wonder what happened to that bike? No matter.

Since being an adult and not being able to ride a bike was (notice I said was, because now I CAN ride) humiliating, I tried to teach myself on our too small back patio, but I just kept falling over. I had been at this for an hour, finally I sucked up my pride and asked my mommy for help. She gave me some pointers and after a while I was able to push myself forward and stay balanced. But the back patio just wasn't big enough to try and pedal a good enough distance to get the hang of it. So, under the cover of darkness, I quietly crept into the street. "Gasp! The neighbor is outside smoking... Drat, my plans have been soiled!" Okay, not that dramatic maybe, but the neighbor WAS smoking outside so I pretended to be sitting up on my bike observing the constellations; by the way, Orion is looking very nice these winter months. But enough of that. After just a few tries I was able to ride a good distance but I weebled and I wobbled and then I fell down. But I was so proud of myself! Now after, tonight, as long as I go straight and try not to turn, I can ride a bike just fine!

I just love Veronica.
