Friday's Faves: Books and Writing

Sorry about the late post guys, the last couple of days have been ca-razy! Over the past few weeks we have been collecting junk items from our church members to have a big yard sale at our house (best location and most space) and yesterday mostly my mom and I and a few others were pricing and setting up, getting ready for the big sale which was held today and will be, tomorrow.

I was so exhausted yesterday after we were done, it was so hot! And after handling so many dusty things I was really dirty. We didn't finish until late in the evening and had begun early that morning, there was so much stuff. Too bad Tessa didn't want to go to sleep last night like I wanted her. When she finally did go to sleep I was too wired from waiting for her to drift off that it took me a good while to drift off myself and then I didn't even sleep that well. So, this morning, to make sure I got my coffee in before the day begun I woke up at 5:30am (and was surprisingly alert, I was already kind of awake before my alarm went off). Mom and I made some last minute preparations; making sure everything had been priced, picking up boxes that had been emptied, getting the change together and such. We opened up at 7am and I was surprised at how much sold, I mean, it is a Friday, most people are working. I'm curious to see how much we make tomorrow. Also, don't expect a special Saturday post, not only will I be helping at the yard sale again I have to do some cleaning at my part time job on top of all that.

When I was younger, at one point, I had dreamed of becoming an author, writing great tales of adventure and great romance. But I didn't feel I had the skill to write something like that, nor the patience. I had all these amazing day dreams and stories that would play out in my head but I just didn't know how to put them to paper. Then later, I wanted to be a journalist; someone who weaved a story from things that had really happened, from facts and research. Only one problem, I was very shy. When I sit down to read and soak in all those delicious words placed on the page before me, I can't help but daydream of being an author, or perhaps a columnist, or a writer for a magazine perhaps. So, today's theme is my love of writing and my love of reading.

Exedra Rosewood and Birch Wood Mechanical Pencil
I'm not one to use a mechanical pencil myself, I prefer the good ol' fashion kind. However, as beautifully and well crafted as this one is, I might just switch over. cgwwood $49.

The Gate Blank Book or Journal
I've been journaling since the Christmas my Mom bought me a children's diary as a gift when I was five years old, up until December of 2010. But there's just something about a blank, bound, hard cover book that draws my attention, calling me to write my own story in it, this one draws me like moth to a flame. TeoStudio $180

Underwood Standard Typerwriter
I use to have a typewriter; nothing as amazing as this one of course, this one makes me want to sit down and manifest the most amazing story ever to have been thought up. bygrassdoll $215

Vintage Letterpress Wood Type
I'd love to have a similar set in my home someday, they'd be fantastic on the wall or as bookends, or perhaps just sitting around randomly on tables. MonkiVintage $40

Websters New World Dictionary
Does anyone even use the dictionary anymore? I go to dictionary.com or look it up on my phone now. Even if no one used the dictionary, this would look beautiful next to a vintage letterpress wood block. SunnyDayVintage $24

Friday's Faves: Tea Party

I've had this notion in my head for a while that I've been wanting to do as a party for myself and friends or as a birthday party for Tessa and her friends once she's old enough; a tea party.

The idea is to collect a mish-mash of tea cups and saucers to serve tea to the guests and as a party favor they would take home their "set" that they drank out of at the party. There would also be different tea's served; black tea, peach tea and lemonade tea with different cookies and cakes, all cutely arranged on platters and stands. Sweet. Guests would also be asked to wear a sun bonnet and dress. Sweet.

Crown Ducal "Wilmslow" Tea Cup and Saucer
How lovely is this little tea cup? I'd love to drink some peach tea out of this little lovely from SummerHolidayVintage, $12.

Vintage Pink and Gold Pottery Tea Pot Flowers
Oh how beautiful, I just love this! The crazing on it really adds to it's character, can't you just imagine this sitting along with the rest of of tea cups in your cupboard? KatyBitsandPieces $15

Sunflower and Pansies 1950's Summer Dress
I think this would be a perfect dress for a semi-formal tea party. I love the color and shape. Coralvintage $120

Sophia Beautiful Straw Hat
Wouldn't this look cute paired with the dress? I think so. LuminataCo $125

Organic Assam Black Tea Bulk
I just love tea, don't you? I could drink it everyday, in fact, sometimes I go through phases where I HAVE to have tea at least once a day and this sounds yummy. Hildegard $19.99

3 Tier Baby Blue and Gold Vintage China Stand
I'd eat cookies and cupcakes off this any day! Of course I'd still eat them if they weren't on it either... LaviniasTeaParty $67.65

Organic Strawberry French Macaron's
I've always wanted to try these. They would look so pretty sitting on china stand. SaltCityPatisserie $24

Repurposing

Now that my Dream Home Series is over and gone ( I can only have so many rooms!), Thursday is now all about being "green" and I don't mean green with envy! Although some of these posts may make you a little envious and have you thinking, "Why didn't I think of that!" From upcycling to saving money to repurposing and everything in between, Thursday will have your mind reeling with ideas and inspiration to improve on your "green" life.

There's so much junk and trash in the world and then people just keep buying stuff so people keep making stuff and more stuff gets bought and so forth and it just keeps building! That's why repurposing is just so cool; it's taking something and turning it into something else that you need. For our first post in the new series I have some pretty awesome pics of repurposed items that I found online that I just HAD to share!
This is so cool! If your living in a house or apartment where the landlord won't let you paint the walls, this will definitely add some color to your walls.

Ah, yes, the pet bed made from a suitcase or similar luggage, I remember when these first became popular and they were EVERYWHERE on Etsy

This is just too cool, and very functional! You can store what you need inside your table!

I love picnic baskets, so when I saw this my jaw just dropped. You could do this with a suitcase, too.

Great idea to display your jewelry for those craft shows, or if you don't do craft shows it'd be a great jewelry box. Love it

Add a hinged lid to these drawers and you've got a storage chest! Upholster that lid and you have an ottoman or perhaps a seat! This may be my next project!

This is pretty awesome, shutters turned into a bookshelf, why didn't I think of that?

This is great for the crochet/knitting enthusiast

Which is your favorite?

New Tuesday

So, I've been trying to reserve Tuesdays to announce new shop items or updates, new ideas for my blog and such. But sometimes I just don't have anything "new" for Tuesday. So, today, it's all about new undiscovered Etsy shops

Studioll
AAAaawww, how cute! This must be for a doll house right? Nope, guess again. Still don't know? It's a tissue box cover! How friggin' cute is that? Studioll, a new, undiscovered shop on Etsy makes these. Awesome.

Jessica Ellingson
I've been seeing this style of bracelet a lot and they're just beautiful. JessicaEllingson makes this particular one.

thehunniepot
I love owls... and Cookies, so I could really eat these cuties up (especially since I have milk and oreos on the brain right now). These are made by thehunniepot (cute name)

Thursday's Faves

I'm switching days here, but only for this week. Today, I'm doing Faves instead of tomorrow because this week's week theme is

The Royal Wedding

and since the wedding is tomorrow I wanted to get this weeks theme up before everyone could witness Will and Kates nuptials.

093ct Natural Sapphire Diamond Ring in 18k white gold
I couldn't leave out the infamous engagement ring; however, I wanted it to be a different style, but just as beautiful and fit for a (future) queen. I found this beauty at honngaijewelry for $1,120

Mexico
I think Kate Middleton would look beautiful in anything, but I think I could see her in something like this. Her style is very chic, modern and she just seems like a minimalist to me. I think she would be dazzling in this. You can find this at AngelsBridalBoutique for $799

5x7 1969 Rolls Royce
It's been rumored that Kate Middleton is supposed to be going to the wedding in a Rolls Royce. All I can say is, "Good choice, Kate, good choice." You can't find an actual Rolls Royce on etsy, but you can find this 5x7 of one at marisabelfineart for $12.50

Men's Black and Tan Deco Vintage Silk Bowtie
Wouldn't it be awesome if Prince William wore a tie like this to his wedding? He'd be very dapper... And so adorable! You can get this for your man at TheSwankChap for $15

Silver Plated Rhinestone Bridal headband
I had to throw in a tiara; you can't have a royal wedding without a tiara, right? You can buy this beauty for your wedding, or if you feel like wearing it just to wear it (hey, I'm not judging!) at, NancysGem for $8.99

Royal Wedding Tea Towel
What cute tea towels! Wouldn't this make a great gift for the newly weds? I think it would make a great gift for any newly wed really. You can find this at helenacarrington for $21

So, will you be watching the wedding? I'm going to try.
