I would really like your opinion!

This is one of the Thank You sets I already offer
So, I have this idea, well I have a few actually... But anyway, once I'm able to come up with more designs for stationery sets, I thought it might be a good idea to make up a sample set for those who can't decide on what set to buy. I also want to do this with different thank you cards as well. I wouldn't charge much for them, like if there were five different cards in one set, I would only charge, maybe, $3.75. That would cover the cost to make and any paypal fees and the Etsy listing fee. And of course I would have to charge shipping and handling. But what do you think? I think it's a good idea and as far as I know no one else is doing it with cards (Please don't steal my idea!) Also, I'm debating on weather or not I should include any envelopes in the sample set; should include five, one for each card? Just one envelope so they can see how it looks? Or maybe just have them request the envelopes?

I don't know, but I'm excited about my idea. I really want your opinion, would you buy a sample set?

Dream Home Series

Do you ever fantasize about the perfect house for yourself? I do. And once a week I want to share that fantasy with you with;

The Dream Home Series

For my dream house, I want a Victorian house with a big wrap around porch, a beautiful back yard with a gorgeous fenced in garden and big oak tree.
Now that's an entrance...
My heart just stopped...

I love the architecture, check out that balcony!

Next Thursday, we'll explore my dream living room and how to obtain it through, what else? Etsy!

A lesson learned and to be learned

mymimi
What you should learn

Is that customer satisfaction goes a LONG way, even if it's at your cost, because in the long term you could have a life long customer.

Last week, a recent customer sent me a message saying she received a package from me that was not hers. My reaction: "Oh crap..." But I figured it out, customer #1 who received the packaged had bought an item from me recently which I sent out using first class mail, so I didn't have to print a shipping label. Everything was fine with her. But then I received another order not too long after customer #1 from customer #2. So, I made her order, printed her shipping label, or so I thought it was hers, and sent it on it's merry way. Turns out when I clicked "print shipping label" I clicked the wrong one and thus, it was sent to the wrong person.

How did I fix it? I informed customer #2 of the mix up and that customer #1 was shipping the package back to me which I would reimburse her for. But then I hadn't heard from customer #1 so I didn't know if the package was on it's way or not. So, I remade the cards, printed the correct shipping label and out it went. In addition, I refunded half the cost to customer #2 on her item and sent a coupon code to customer #1.

Customer #2 is the dream customer. Despite my mistake she was very patient and understanding and because of my prompt responses to her questions and getting her cards back out and refunding half of it, she says she will definitely be stopping back by.

What I learned

I will definitely be double checking what goes to who and probably be creating a shipping form to keep my orders straight.

New Card! This one is really cute!

I actually made this baby a while back but it took a while to get a chance to photograph it and then it took even longer to be able to edit it! Isn't it adorable though? I "LOVE" it.

I used a kraft card stock, embossed little hearts on it, and attached a paper lace, that I made myself, with LOVE stamped across it. I just think it's darling, I can't get over it. I'll be sad to see it go.

If you love this card as much as I do, you can purchase it here.

Don't you, forget about me, don't don't don't

Don't forget about the giveaway I'm doing, it's still good until April 15th, midnight! Check out the details here and be sure to comment!

Schools (in) for summer

She kind of looks like she's planning revenge...
So Monday I had an appointment with a counselor at the college (Who was very nice by the way) to help me plan my classes for the next few semesters since I'm changing my major to Business Administration, yep, and I am very excited for all the things I'll be learning and using to better my etsy shop. So, that's what I'll be doing this Summer; bicycling my way to college and a better future.

Oh yeah... about my weekend project

I almost forgot about my planned weekend project. Well, I did find a dress, but guess where? In my closet! Not sure how it will turn out because the material is difficult to work with and right now I really wish I had a manikin, because just when I think I have it pinned all nice and even, I lift it up to see where the hem falls and it turns out the back is shorter than the front. Lame. I have yet to finish it so I'll keep ya posted.

Healthy Monday #1

You know, I get tired of blogging about all the same stuff over and over again. I've noticed a common theme on other blogs is to have a blogging schedule for every day of the week. Which is something I'm going to experiment with, and will probably change up as I'm figuring out what works for me, so bare with me here :)

Since I'm trying to get back to my pre-baby weight and this blog is about my life and very much apart of it, Monday will become about healthy things and my adventures in losing weight. But before I dive into this post I'm going to give you a little bit about my weight history.

The heaviest I'd ever gotten was 160, and for someone who is naturally curvy (even at her skinniest) and is only 4'11" that's a lot; and that was in high school. My Mom and I went on Weight Watchers and I lost 40 lbs. I felt fab. But it didn't last long, I lost it too quickly and gained 20 pounds of it back, putting me at 140. My Freshman year of college I took a health class and P.E., both are a requirement. My health class really gave me a motivation I never had before to lose the weight right and keep it off (Yes there is a wrong way to lose weight). I started burning off 400 calories at the gym every day with the help of my trusty iPod, I cut certain things out of my diet, like mayonnaise, white flower, and butter. I still ate fast food burgers but I asked for the small meal and had my burger made dry (which means no mayo or secret sauce), I also stopped drinking soda. I got my weight down to 123 and kept it off for 2 years. And then I pregnant. I was very careful about my weight during my pregnancy and only gained what I was supposed to, which was 30 lbs. Now, for those of us who have have children know that you lose some of the weight when you give birth. I lost 15 lbs as soon as Tessa was born, and because I was breast feeding her I lost 8 lbs that first week, leaving me to shed 7 lbs. Easy right? No. Something about having a baby and your change in hormones makes losing weight much more difficult, and gaining weight so much easier. On the weekend of my birthday I gained 5 lbs in addition to the 7 I already had. So far I've only lost 3 lbs of the 12 that I need to get rid of.

My original goal was to try and have the weight off before Easter so my dress (which had fit anyway) would fit better. But then I gained 5 pounds so now my goal is to lose at least two more pounds, so I can be back at the 7 to be able to zip up my dress.

So, now that you know a little bit about my history and goal, my original post was going to be about healthy snacks. Whats your go-to when you need a little somethin' somethin' before a meal? Mine is homemade popped popcorn. It's full of fiber so it helps to make you feel full and keeps you from making poor choices when you need something to eat. I don't salt or butter mine. Salt makes me hold on to water which makes me bloated and causes the numbers to go up on the scale and of course butter is just fattening. But I don't like having to cook it all the time. So does anyone have a quick, easy, healthy snack tip you would like to share?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Fashion help

Is this not the cutest? I wish it was in my size...
There are so many adorable clothes on Etsy. Some are handmade, and some are vintage. But I have a problem, I have the hardest time finding my size! Many of the vintage dresses are too small and with the handmade clothes I have to make a custom order for my size. I'm not real big, just very curvy. My bust size is in the 40's and I don't know what my waist size is but it certainly isn't no 32. *Sigh* I want to buy more handmade or even vintage but when your a voluptuous gal like me it's nearly impossible (Unless I have something custom made which means waiting for it to be made and then sent out...)

So does anyone know of an etsy shop that offers sizes for curvier girls? I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

March 25, 2011

My weekend project

I still have that big order going on that I was talking about here, so I'll probably be working on that this weekend. And I need to finish Tessa's shoes, but hopefully if there's time, I hope to, at the very least, check out the thrift shops for a dress to convert into a skirt. I'm kind of doubtful though, the thrift shops here are poorly kept, dirty, and the clothes aren't in very good condition and very outdated.

Wish me luck!

What are you doing this weekend?

Etsy Purchase Review #2

Owly Love Keychain
Good morning everyone! I have an etsy purchase review for you; Needlings .

Needlings is a plushie shop on Etsy and is based in Canada. The owner, Heather Saunders belongs to the etsy Plush Team which you can check out at their website (It has a listing of other members and their sites).

I've been in the market for a new key chain for a while, ever since my Twilight key chain broke. I knew I wanted something cutesy, and I wanted an owl, they're just so cute! I had favorited a few of them but then I came across one from Needlings and I just fell in love. I thought it was the cutest little thing I had ever seen, and in my new favorite color too! Mint! It did take a little while to get here but that was understandable since it was coming all the way from Canada. But when I did get it, it was well packaged and not only was my little owl in it, which I have nicknamed my "Traveling Buddy," but I also received an adorable little pin back button with a picture of a cartoon owl on it and a fun promotional sticker for the Plush Team. That's what I love about etsy, your not just paying for the item, you paying for customer service.

Cutest. Owl. Ever.

More Etsy for Japan Relief

I have to do 100 notecards and 100 envelopes to get done in two weeks for a bride who would like them after her honeymoon so she can send out her thank you's. That's a month's worth of cards done in just a couple of weeks. But I know I can do it. So, we're just gonna keep this post simple today.

Etsy Teams for Japan

I like teams, there are a lot of them on Etsy each one with a different purpose, I happen to belong to three, one I created myself (Which I will probably close, none of the members are participating, oh well), Bloggers Unite! I also belong to the Etsy Blog Team and Paper Designs 4 U. Teams give a sense of community and purpose, they're great for meeting other artists and making new friends. They also give Etsians a way to band together for one cause; like these teams

The largest team, Artist Aid, is made up of 434 members. There are no requirements to join, it simply asks to donate one piece of work to the cause.

About this Team

"Watching the footage of the Tsunami Crisis in Japan? Want to help, but don't know how? By coming together, we can make a difference.

This is open to anyone & is done on your own honor. YOU control where your money is donated. YOU are in control of your money.

The idea is you pledge a piece of your artwork for the cause, then once the sale has been made, you make your donation of choice.

This is simply a collaborative effort. As a group we have the ability to reach more people, than by reaching out on our own.

Make treasuries, tweet about it, promote, promote, promote. Together, we can make a difference."

Etsians for Disaster Relief is the second largest team, with 257 members. This is another great team that anyone can join, there are no requirements. Right now their efforts are going towards Japan but they're description simply says;

"This is a place where we can post links for diaster relief allover the world when tragedies happen"
The Japan Relief Team is made up of  79 members. The purpose of this team is for the members to discuss how they are using their stores to help Japan. But it's also a way to promote each other for the good of Japan.

If your looking to join a team for Japan, any team will do, it doesn't matter how many members it has, we're all working for the same cause.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!

Hello everyone, I hope your Sunday is filled with SUN... Get it? SUNday? Although there is nothing sunny about my Sunday, it's been raining all day so far.

So what are you guys up to? Today, like every Sunday, I'm rushing to get myself and the little one dressed and out the door to church with the help of my mom. By the way, having a cute little baby in your lap while making funny noises makes it really hard to concentrate on the sermon, and if you have kids then you know what I'm talking about.

A couple of weeks back I bought a PDF pattern for baby shoes from sewingwithme1for Tessa's Easter shoes. Mom and I finally got around to sewing them, however they aren't done yet. I don't want to show you the steps for it because I'd hate to take away from sewingwithme1 sales but once it's finished I will definitely put pics up of the finished product.

So stay tuned!

Samaritan's Purse

The Samaritan's Purse is a Christian Organization that helps others around the world. Their name comes from the parable that Jesus Christ told in Luke 10:25-37; "The Good Samaritan." For those who are unfamiliar with this parable, it is a story of a Jew left beaten, robbed, and left for dead who is found by the "Good Samaritan" who helps the Jew by giving him food, clothes and shelter. Basically, Jesus Christ says that we should all help those in need; which is exactly what the Samaritans Purse does.

This is another organization I have some experience with (you can read about the other organization here). Every Christmas our church donates shoe boxes with small goodies in it to the Samaritans Purse to passed out to needy children who won't be receiving gifts that year.

You can check out the Samaritan's Purse online, view their history, their different missions, what they are about and what they are doing to improve the world before you donate to the Japan relief fund. On their website you can also donate to other funds as well. Just take a look.

Also, don't forget about my giveaway for my set of monogrammed cards which Ends April 15th, midnight

P.S. In an attempt to gain more readers I've decided to post on the weekend when able. So talk to you tomorrow!

Friday Fave's #5

Friday Fave's Theme: Hope

I wanted to give everyone a little bit of a break from the disaster in Japan, but I didn't want to stray too far. So this weeks theme is hope.

23 inch White Shabby Chic Distressed Nursery Hope Decor Sign
I love items that are versatile. This would make a great gift for anyone, especially if their name is Hope and would look good in any home or office; on the wall, mantel, or sitting in a large bookshelf. You can buy this at Rivalry Time. This one is $39.99. Be sure to step into the shop to check out all the other goodies!

Wish Big
These vinyl words are very inspiring, and again, versatile. This would look great in a little girls room, a teenage girls room, if you have a free wall in your kitchen; this would look great there too. I think it would make a great housewarming gift. You can find this at singlestonestudios for $65.

Rain or Balloon Print
Not entirely sure if this has to do with hope but it is inspiring, and too cute to pass up! You can buy this adorable print at ilovedoodle for $30.

Braille Painting
This one is really cool, it's a painting of "hope" in braille by JMJARTSTUDIO for $229.

Nest of Hope Pendant
Nothing is more promising of hope than the promise of life, this is such a lovely necklace. This would actually be good for someone who is expecting, or has three grandchildren. Just lovely. You can get this at auntbattyscloset for $35.

HOPE e35
This bracelet is buy pinkyourlimb and is $8. I like it because it kind of has bohemian feel to it. Pinkyourlimb has other wonderful bracelets that definitely deserve a looksy.

Hope Cross
This one really needs no words but its beautiful in it's simplicity and is a symbol for hope, love, peace, faith.... You can find this at chipcarving for $70.

That's our theme for this week people, next week's theme will be "Good Deals and Steals" so stay tuned! And don't forget to keep reading so you can find out how you can help Japan.

Japan Relief and Etsy

One of the reasons I love buying and selling on Etsy is because of the strong sense of community; not just among other sellers but through out the world. With every natural disaster, Etsy sellers have banned together to raise money for those in need by selling their items and then donating the proceeds to a relief fund. I myself have only a few items listed in my shop up for sale for the Japan Relief, and the proceeds will be donated to World Vision. So here are some items that stuck out to me on Etsy that you can buy to help those suffering in Japan.

Heart for Japan
This one really fits the situation I think. It expresses love and the gift of giving which is what we're all about here this week. All proceeds of this print will be donated to The Red Cross and you kind find this and others like it at Elephant Dancing for $22.

Help Japan
I think this piece speaks for itself. You can find it at Kalimate for $46.45. All proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

Japan Disaster Relief Bracelet
This bracelet is very simple in its design but very impacting. Before I read the description I knew that it represented the Japanese flag. All proceeds will be donated to The American Red Cross. You can buy this bracelet for $5 at Top Knotch.

Origami Paper Crane
The description for this actually brought tears to my eyes. The crane is $5 and you can buy it at Fawning in Love. All proceeds will be donated to Save the Children, an organization dedicated to helping children in emergencies.

That's it for this one folks, I will definitely be posting more later on and hopefully I will be able to feature sellers who are donating to the relief fund.

I hope you all find it in your hearts to do something to help those who are in desperate need.

Etsy purchase review #1

I don't buy things from Etsy as much as I would like to since money is tight. So, my Etsy Purchase Reviews will probably be far and few inbetween. And to be clear, I will NEVER write a bad review about anyone, it's like that old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

Do you remember THIS Friday's Faves post? Well, I bought that bicycle bell for Veronica! Yep, and Spoke n' Wheel was so nice, too. After I had made the blog post they offered me a 15% discount for the bike bell which mostly covered the shipping and handling. It was very kind of them, thanks again!

I received my lovely little bell Saturday, March 12th while my family was here so I didn't get a chance to check it out much. I did get it attached to my bike the next day though. Its a nice bright red with the letter "E" for Elissa on it, in the same color. It attaches like your basic bike bell and has a nice little chime. I love it. It's very me and is super cute. If your looking for a unique bike bell that suits your personality, stop in at Spoke n' Wheel.

How you can help Japan through World Vision

World Vision is a Christian organization that I know and trust.

When I first discovered this organization, I was at a Christian concert with friends. Through out the concert, the band was telling us how we could help feed and clothe a child by "adopting" one through World Vision. During intermission and at the end of the concert. Anyone could go to the back table to view pictures of children they could adopt and help. One picture of a little boy kept standing out to me, Thapelo. He was six years old and had the same birthday as my brother; I looked at all the others but I just kept getting pulled back to him. I had to adopt him.

Every month I would get photos and letters and drawings from Thapelo. He was such a cute little boy. Sadly, money got tight and I couldn't donate anymore. The people at World Vision assured me they would find someone else to adopt him. I still get updates on him.

So, if your looking for a trusted place to donate to the relief for Japan, World Vision is a good spot. It's very simple, you just choose the amount you wish to donate or enter another amount in the little box and click donate now.

I have items in my shop for sale to help with the relief for Japan, all proceeds from those items will be donated through World Vision.

Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

I'm sure it's safe to say that all of us have seen and heard of the tragedy in Japan. I keep watching the news and it seems like it just keeps getting worse and worse; first the earthquake, then the tsunami and now the nuclear reactors. So this week, I will be posting about shops that are selling items to help out Japan. I will also be using this week trying to find some way of helping through my own shop as well.

We have all had small tragedies in our lives, and it always feels so good when friends and family members come rushing to our aid without us having to ask. I remember when my uncle passed away, we were swamped with things to do to plan for the funeral and still had our normal lives to live at the same time, but how can you when a loved one just passed? Our pastor sent her son and son-in-law, with tools in hand to do the yard work. doing the yard was always my Mom's biggest chore and her most dreaded, and at the time desperately needed to be done and only added to the stress. It may not sound like much, but for them to help us just made the world of difference to us. I know that our small tragedy does not even compare to those who have suffered in Japan, but it just reminds me how something so simple can make someone feel so good.

So, be sure to pay attention these next couple of weeks to find out how you can help Japan.

God Bless,
Elissa

Giveaway!

There's a Blog party at LEXoxo! She's doing tons of giveaways, this post however is for a chance to win some very cute pairs of earrings, sheck it out!

Not much to say for today

Pretty Pink Thank You's
Hello my friends, just wanted to let you know that this week might be slow on my blog. I've recieved two large orders that I need to work on this week. One is for my set of monogrammed cards and the other is for a set of my pretty, pink, thank you cards.

Monogrammed Cards
I also have some really exciting news, you may not find it so exciting but I just had to share. Yesterday I was contacted through Etsy by a woman who is opening an online store with items from etsy sellers, she wants 52 note cards. I know its a good opportunity but I keep going back and forth.

Pros:
1. It gets my name out there more
2.It's a large order and would help out a LOT

Cons:
1. Her style doesn't match my style
2. I'm wanting to do this slowly since I'm starting school in summer and hope to get a job, if I agree to this I may become overwhelmed with too many orders

I don't know what to do. Any insight to those who have experience with selling?

Monday's child is fair of face

... I was born on a Monday. Yay! My face is fair... Thats a good thing right?

Anyway, my weekend was great. Friday evening Tim, Tessa's Dad, came down from San Fransisco to visit for the weekend. He was helping me keep our little darling awake until my sister and her family got there so they could see her immediately instead of having to wait until morning. I must say, that was the quickest hug I've ever gotten from my sister and I have never seen a woman scoop up a baby as fast as she did, well except for maybe Angelina Jolie.

Saturday, I went out early with Tim to get donuts for every one (Thank you Tim for buying us breakfast!). After breakfast us girls made ourselves beautiful in between turns while we played Quelf, which is a very fun and silly game by the way, a definite must. That after noon, my sister, my niece and I went shopping at Khols for an Easter dress for Tessa and it is so cute! I also found a dress for myself while my sister found some "unmentionables" *nudge nudge* *wink wink.*

Sunday, my sister and her family and Tim joined us for church. Tim and I spent most of it in the nursery trying to get Tessa happy. It was a great weekend and I'm so happy everyone came. Our house is dirty, I can't walk in my room and I'm exhausted but it was totally worth it.

Tell me about your weekend!

March 11, 2011

Shop Announcement!

I will now be offering free shipping to anywhere in the world for orders over $30! Who doesn't love free shipping? This works well for my monogrammed and thank you sets.

A VERY filled weekend

This weekend, Tessa's dad is coming down from San Fransisco for the weekend to visit; and if my nephew is feeling better, so is my sister, her husband and their four kids.

If my sister's family can make it, us girls are suppose to do a little shopping. If she isn't able to come I may be able to talk Tim into going to the antique showcase in Bakersfield and perhaps visit my brother as well. Sunday, I may try to relax from all the cleaning I've been doing.

So what are your exciting plans for this weekend my readers?

Friday's Faves #4

Child Ceramic Tea Set
I wish I had a tea set as pretty as this when I was little, although I probably would have broken the dishes which is probably why my parents bought me a plastic set. You can find this at KathyCeramicRose. $50

Modern Child Chair
What a nice chair for a kids crafting table and you can choose the color you want to match the room! Of course, if one chair won't do you you could order the four chairs and table set from jessedirk. $270

Matisse Sweet Halter Dress
This is such a sweet little dress! Its by babybeenos. Babybeenos has other beautiful dresses for your little darling to choose from. $44

Good news!

I should very soon have a computer that will read my memory card. Which means I will be able to add new items to my shop once again instead of renewing or copying products over and over again, yay I'm so excited!

Credit goes out to my brother who is giving me his old desktop, I'm so  thrilled!

I CHALLENGE YOU!!

So I was doing some cleaning and organizing today and I realized I had some spare jars that use to be candles but had been used up. I ended up using them for holding cotton balls and my hair ties that seem to disappear into thin air. Hopefully I solved the problem.

And so, I came up with this challenge for you my readers.

Rules of the Challenge:

1. Become a follower of my blog

2. Join my fan page

3. Tweet about the challenge

4. Post on Facebook about the challenge

5. Most importantly, you HAVE to do this one, is submit a photo of a repurposed/ recycled jar that you have done yourself, in JPG format to littlemisscards@hotmail.com, no bigger than 1000 x 1000 pixels.(If you do not submit a photo you will not be entered into the challenge). Please include the same name that you will use in your comments in the email so that there is no confusion. Also, I will be posting photos on the blog unless you do not wish me to.

6. Once you have done most of these, or all of these, please post a comment (seperate comments for each one) that you have done so. Be sure that your email address is included.

Winner's will receive a ten card set with their monogram of choice and will be picked at random through random.org you have until April 9th midnight.

Happy DIY!
